Irish Win International Rules
Saturday, October 25th, 2008Watched the game between Ireland and Australia tonight. My mother went for Ireland (funny thing for a Pom to do.)
Ireland won by one point. Was a very exciting match to watch. The Aussies were down by about 15 points at one stage, but in true AUssie style didn’t give up. They started a great comeback, but alas time ran out for them. The Irish were very impressive. The goalie kept a clean sheet.
The Irish didn’t have any professionals (unlike the Aussie team who are all professional Aussie Rules players). The trade off I guess is the Irish are used to playing the game, whilst the Aussies are fitter. The comeback at the end showed that.
Full credit to Ireland for a great game. Hope they enjoy their celebrations whilst they are here in Perth (we’re pretty friendly).

Daylight savings starts tomorrow. The media has been working hard to convince people that it is a good thing. I’ve seen them interview a lot of people who are all PRO daylight savings, yet statistics apparently claim the state is pretty much split on the idea. So why the bias?
We’ve had Doctors tell us it is better for our health. Why? Well, because apparently there is an increase in people exercising in the evenings. Of course, there was also a drop off of people exercising in the mornings, but apparently there are more who started exercising than stopped. Of course, they didn’t mention anything about the fact it shortens peoples lives (due to them having to get used to the time difference), which has been proven.
They claimed it didn’t disrupt kids sleep habits. Which is funny, because almost everyone I know with kids claims that it does cause problems putting kids to sleep. Their source for the ‘doesn’t disrupt kids sleep habits’ was a sleep disorder centre. They claim that because they don’t get a massive rise (only a little) in parents bringing kids in to get their sleep disorders fixed, that it proves it doesn’t affect the kids. As one of the guys on the bus said, ‘Yes, it does affect the kids, but you don’t take them to a sleep disorder clinic when you know the cause of their problem.’
Then, there is the REAL reason that people want daylight savings. Because it brings us in line with the Eastern states and makes it easier for them to do business.
As I’ve said many a time before, they should either move our timezone (so that we’re always on the equivalent of daylight savings time), or they should scrap it. It doesn’t save us electricity (we end up getting up in the dark and turning all the lights on in the morning rather than getting home and turning them on at night). It takes most peoples bodies three weeks to get used to the change in time (and we get to do that twice, once forward and once backwards next year).
The media even tried to portray people as stupid who don’t want it. A reported asked a lady if she thought it causes her curtains to fade. Its funny that people keep saying that is why West Aussies don’t want it, but I am yet to find a person who is even remotely stupid enough to believe that.
Apparently on radio someone did say that it caused embarrassment on the bus when they get their ‘morning glory’ on the way to work instead of when they wake up in the morning. Funny, but too convincing an argument.
I thought it was funny when the media interviewed four English guys who said they’d leave the country if we didn’t adopt daylight savings (one of them did clarify they might not leave the country, but might head over east instead). These guys must be super special if the whole of WA needs to do what they want else we’ll all be greatly affected by their mass walk out … four is a mass isn’t it? My first thought was, ‘Why should I & others suffer just to give you what you want?’ When the majority of the State doesn’t want daylight savings, why should four Englishmen the media rounded up be the ones telling us what to do in our own country? We didn’t ask them to come here. Yet, for some reason the media seem to think that we need to take their opinions into account and ignore the opinions and views of other who think like ourselves.
Anywat, this is the last daylight savings in the three year trial period, and I sincerely hope that in the referendum it gets rejected like every other time it has come up. Funny how we rejected it three times and were still forced to endure three years of it.

I decided to follow in Wuchings footsteps and have ordered the 1/144 scaled models of ten Star Wars vehicles. I also ordered a pack of ten Japanese WWII aircraft, plus a book in Japanese. May the Japanese AirFORCE be with you!
